Roadchef, one of the UK’s leading Motorway Service Area (MSA) operators, has announced the opening of a Changing Places facility at its Norton Canes site, on the M6 Toll.
The new Changing Places facility at Norton Canes on the M6 toll will provide customers with specialist equipment and more space than is available in a conventional disabled facility, representing a significant investment by Roadchef.
Installed by Closomat, the market leader in away-from-home accessible toileting solutions, the 12m2 room features a peninsular WC, height-adjustable adult-sized changing bench, height-adjustable washbasin and a ceiling track hoist.
Simon Turl, Roadchef CEO, explained:
Roadchef prides itself on providing the best service on the motorway network and it is important to us that all of our customers are able to comfortably use our facilities. We’re delighted to now be able to meet the needs of all people with a disability and we look forward to welcoming customers who are now able to take advantage of this facility at our Norton Canes site
Changing Places campaigner, Tony Clough MBE, further welcomed the addition:
I am delighted Roadchef has invested in this Changing Places facility. This move provides motorists travelling north and south on the M6 Toll with the best, most accessible facilities when they stop during their journeys.
Changing Places mean that families like mine, with someone who needs help with intimate care, can venture away from home, and relax.
Potentially up to 14million people need more space and/or additional equipment beyond what is found in a conventional wheelchair-accessible toilet.
Under latest Building Regulations and good practice guidelines, a Changing Places toilet is ‘desirable’ in buildings to which numbers of the public have access. Since their introduction a decade ago, almost 1000 have been opened across the UK. Under British Standards, a Changing Places is in addition to conventional (Building Regulations Document M) wheelchair accessible toilets, and provides 12m2, with additional equipment including an adult-sized height adjustable changing bench and ceiling track hoist.
Closomat is Britain’s leading provider of helpful toileting solutions, at home and away, including Changing Places and their similar Space to Change facilities. Uniquely, the company can provide an in-house, ‘one- stop-shop’ complete package for ‘away from home’ assisted accessible toilet facilities, from design and commissioning, through to project management, supply and installation, and can also provide subsequent maintenance and repair.
Its website is the most comprehensive resource available about Changing Places for campaigners, providers and specifiers alike, with a raft of support information including white papers, calling cards, CAD blocks, video and case studies.
