Becky’s innovative solution to dealing with IBS

  • Angela May

Becky Downie from Exeter says she now feels safe, and has confidence; she is managing to live independently, with just one care visit/day, despite her various limitations which include IBS.

The Closomat WC as standard has integrated douche and dry functions, eliminating the need to wipe clean with toilet paper. Becky’s unit has been tailored to her individual needs with accessories of a plinth and bariatric seat. The plinth has raised the toilet enough for Becky to easily get on and off, whilst the bariatric seat ensures she is supported and comfortable when using the WC.

Explained Becky (42), “Before, I was using a commode in the lounge because I couldn’t use the standard toilet in the wetroom. Neither the WC nor the commode met my needs. Because of my IBS and mobility needs, I was getting through three or four pairs of pyjama bottoms a day. I was often sore too as I wasn’t properly clean. Since I’ve had the Closomat, I can go to the loo whenever I want, feel safe doing so, and be clean. It has given me my confidence back. My carers have noticed, too and commented on the difference it has made to me.”
